Deconstructing Tradition
Guangzhou
2018

The rooftop’s excellent natural lighting conditions are leveraged through a deconstructive architectural approach, reconfiguring the clubhouse’s light-gathering interfaces both horizontally and vertically. Natural light is introduced into every functional space, and the forms of the light wells give rise to the clubhouse’s organic composition—free of pretense or excess, with every detail rooted in function. The rooftop’s gravel paving, bone cement concrete, and roughly textured white walls all echo the restrained and introspective nature of the original design intent.
